LC&SA has a rich history supporting local sportsman

Initially created in 1941, with a clubhouse at 9875 Grand River Road, the mission to “Accommodate a United Effort for the General Benefit of Sportsman” continues to this day.  LC&SA officially affiliated with M.U.C.C, district 7, in 1949, and began selling ownership stock to membership (one share was valued at $22.50 in 1967).  Membership dues were a scant $2.50 per year!

From the very beginning, LC&SA was heavily focused on Social Interaction, Archery, Fishing, Trap, and Conservation:

  • The Archery program regularly hosted State Shoots and youth archery programs (J.O.A.D.)
  • The Trap program held multiple leagues and special event shoots for area hunters.
  • Socially, LC&SA was known for Poker Nights, Bingo, frequent dances, picnics, pot-lucks, and social gatherings.
  • In the early 1950’s, LC&SA joined other local sportsman’s clubs and went on record as being opposed to Small Game Hunting below town line #6 on Sunday’s, and also sent a letter (co-authored by Howell G.C. and Michigan Sportsman’s Congress) to the MI Department of Conservation objecting to the use of high-powered rifles for deer hunting in lower Michigan.  A hot topic a the time supported by many hunters and conservations clubs.

In the late 1960’s, LC&SA began the very popular “Children’s Day” events, which are continued annually to this day.

In the 1970’s LC&SA was proud to begin hosting the MI State Championship Trap shoots, and began the ever-popular annual pig roast picnic.  We also began regular Hunter Safety Programs.

The 80’s brought about an explosion in the Archery program, with LC&SA hosting dozens of State and Local championships in many types of shooting: MAA, NFAA, MLA, JOAD, FITA, and AMER 900.

The 90’s brought CMP affiliation, and the first time hosting the Michigan Long Bow tournament which successfully brought in almost 2000 bowmen over a three-day shoot.

Today, Archery and Trap are still hugely popular: Trap runs regular leagues twice a week, and Archery has both adult and kid’s programs, a 3-D and Field/Hunters course with both indoor and outdoor archery options.

In addition, LC&SA is the premier location in S.E. Michigan for IDPA, NRL22, and Multi-Gun shooting sports with all three disciplines holding monthly matches.  We even host NRA Precision Pistol!

Our annual Kids Day event continues to draw hundreds of families and safely exposes minors to Archery, Fishing, Rimfire Rifle, Shotgun, Muzzleloading, and Pistol (airsoft) disciplines and regularly brings in the MI DNR for Hunters Safety, Safari Club, Livingston Fire Department, Sheriff, Dive Team, and Ambulance service.  We’re also proud to have the MI State Police on site as well!
